What's New for 2020

Having undergone a ground-up redesign in 2019, the Sierra 1500 sees a light refresh for the 2020 model year that includes a new 3.0-liter Duramax straight-six diesel engine option. In addition to increased fuel economy (EPA-estimated 25 mpg highway), the new diesel engine improves torque numbers (440 pound-feet) for a max tow rating of 9,100 pounds.

The 2020 Sierra 1500 also adds pair of trim levels, Elevation and AT4, for a greater selection of features and options.

MultiPro™ Tailgate

Innovative MultiPro™ Tailgate

An integral part of the truck bed, a tailgate should do more than just keep stuff from falling out. Enter the class-exclusive and world-first MultiPro™ Tailgate: the most innovative tailgate ever. In addition to a 400-watt outlet, the tailgate lives up to its full protentional, with six convenient functions designed to make your job even easier.

  • The remote-open primary gate lowers with the touch of a button or key fob.

  • A built-in load stop keeps long items secure with the tailgate opened.

  • When the tailgate is open, an inner gate can be folded down for closer access to the truck bed, and easier loading, unloading and rearranging.

  • A fold-out full-width step supports up to 375 pounds.

  • An inner-gate load stop keeps elevated long items secure.

  • With the inner gate folded down, it provides a convenient raised work surface.

Standard power comes from the 4.3-liter V-6 base engine that makes 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Max towing reaches 9,700 pounds.

Features common to all the trim levels include a locking tailgate, a rearview camera, power locks and windows, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

Different jobs have different power needs, and the Sierra 1500 can be spec'd to handle it; offering four additional powertrain options with great horsepower and torque ratings. Above the base 4.3-liter V-6 engine, the following engines are available to motivate the 2020 Sierra 1500:
